“Metabolic Syndrome in Children: Current Scenario & Challenges”.
Paediatric obesity and diabetes are increasingly becoming major public health concerns in the world including in Malaysia. The early onset of risk factor clustering is alarming, considering that metabolic syndrome components may track into adulthood and significantly increase the risk for future CVD and T2DM. Early diagnosis is required to allow interventions such as lifestyle modification, pharmacotherapy, and surgery to prevent further complications.
This symposium with the theme “Metabolic Syndrome in Children: Current Scenario & Challenges”. is an excellent platform to get the latest updates on this topic from international and local experts. Lecture topics include a basic understanding of the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome, a recent update on obesity & diabetes in children, and also laboratory roles in aiding the management.
This symposium is jointly organized by the Pathology Department of Hospital Tunku Azizah and the Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (MACB).
